FAQ’s

Do I need an emission Test?

Heavy-duty diesel vehicles that are seven model years and older must pass an emissions test to renew registration. Heavy-duty diesel vehicles older than the current model year will be required to pass an emissions test to register the vehicle to a new owner.

How much does an emission test cost?

There is no set fee for heavy-duty diesel vehicle emissions tests. Tests must be performed at an accredited facility by a certified inspector. Once completed we will provide you with a test report.

How is an emission test done?

Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are subject to an opacity test, which measures smoke density from a vehicle’s exhaust.

Some heavy-duty diesel vehicles made in 2007 or later have an OBD system that monitors the vehicle’s engine and emissions system every time you drive.

We test these vehicles by:

  • conducting an opacity test

  • scanning your OBD computer

The OBD system test doesn’t determine whether your vehicle passes or fails its emissions test. This information is used as a courtesy to help identify potential problems with the vehicle.

Will my vehicle pass the emission test?

Before performing the emissions test, the inspector will do a visual check of the vehicle. Our inspector’s can generally give you a good idea if there are any concerns such as visible smoke that may affect the results of the test.

How to make sure my vehicle passes an emission test?

Keeping your vehicle well maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommended service schedules can help you avoid costly repairs and reduce pollution. If your check engine light comes on, have your vehicle looked at by a qualified repair technician as soon as possible.
